Sony TVs and LOVEFiLM to Offer Direct and Instant Access to Movies


LOVEFiLM, a DVD rental subscription service and Sony have just entered into an agreement to benefit the customers of both companies. The deal will give the users the right to see more than 67,000 movies directly through Sony Bravia devices. Further, Sony Bravia Internet video TVs users will also be able to watch movies on their Blu-ray players and Blu-ray Home Theatre Kits.

LOVEFiLM users will also be able to watch movies on demand without having to wait for their turn. They will merely have to choose the logo of the service on the menu bar of their Sony internet-enabled video devices. They can also manage their movies on DVD and Blu-ray rental lists by classifying the movies according to genre, favourites, etc.

According to Simon Calver, LOVEFiLM’s chief executive, the company’s online DVD rental was a revolutionary concept in Europe. Now this deal will give users direct and instant access to movies, bringing entertainment directly to their homes, as it were. The company hopes to soon start the service and has promised to invest more in digital content.
