Overview on Stephen Schwarzman

Born as Stephen Schwarzman on February 14th 1947, he is best known for being a billionaire investor and businessman, as well as the founding partner and head of the private equity and financial consultancy firm called the Blackstone Group.

Stephen Schwarzman studied at the Abington School District and graduated from the Abington Senior High School in Philadelphia. In college, he attended Yale University at the same time George W. Bush was there (he was one year behind him though) and graduated in 1969. Later on, he went to Harvard Business School, graduating with an MBA by 1972.

Stephen Schwarzman started his business venture in financial services by working at the Lehman Brothers investment bank. When he turned 31, he became its managing director and soon enough, was the head of its global mergers and acquisitions (M&A) team. In 1985, Stephen Schwarzman and Peter Peterson formed Blackstone, which specializes in M&As.

His current net worth is about $7.8 billion, enough to earn him a ranking as Forbes magazines’ 53rd wealthiest individual in the United States in 2008. Earlier in 2007, he was named as one of the 100 Most Influential People in the World by Time Magazine.

At present, Stephen Schwarzman owns an apartment in Park Avenue, New York that was formerly owned by John D. Rockefeller Jr. and Mayflower descendent George Brewster.
