Poker Less Affected by Economy

As I have noted before, online poker and casino online seems to have the ability to withstand the worldwide economic slow down better than most other industries. According to Reuters, Europe’s online gambling companies should buck the economic downturn with around 10 percent growth in revenues this year, the chief executive of the European Remote Gambling Association said on Monday. “”The poker online betting market is coping very well with the slowdown and is bucking the trend,” Clive Hawkswood told Reuters in an interview.

Last month, Britain’s top two bookmakers Ladbrokes and William Hill both posted a rise in profits. Bookmakers are widely regarded as being less vulnerable than other retailers to the recession given the habitual nature of gamblers, the news agency reported. One reason for this may be because people who are losing their jobs, or who are worried about money, feel they can strike it rich playing online poker. Also, online poker doesn’t have the travel costs associated with going to a poker room or casino, and is more convenient. Many new players to the game have been attracted by online poker rather than playing in a casino. I believe online poker will always thrive, no matter what the state of the economy. So keep on playing!
